CCD calls for elimination of discrimination against persons with disabilities

The Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) on Sunday called for the elimination of discrimination against persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the country.
The interim head of CCD, Florence Austin, made the call in a statement in Lagos to commemorate the 2023 International Day for PWDs.
She also called for efforts to enhance accessibility and empower individuals with disabilities to participate fully in all life aspects.
Ms Austin said the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) served as a blueprint for a more sustainable and equitable future for PWDs.
According to her, the 2023 theme: “United in Action to Rescue and Achieve the SDGs for, with, and by Persons with Disabilities”, emphasised the collective effort required to ensure inclusivity and equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
“By fostering unity and collaboration, we aim to break down barriers, promote accessibility and create an environment where everyone can actively contribute to building a better world.
“It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development and to increase awareness of the challenges they face.
“The day also seeks to highlight the importance of creating an inclusive and accessible world for all.
“By standing united in action, we can truly rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with, and by persons with disabilities,” she said.
