Artisan bags six months in jail for stealing electrical fittings

An Area Court in Jos, Plateau State on Tuesday sentenced a 21-year-old man Pam Dung to six months imprisonment for destroying pop ceilings and stealing electrical fittings worth N 2, 417, 000.
The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced Dung after he pleaded guilty to the offence and begged the court for leniency.
The judge also gave the convict an option of N50,000 fine and asked him to pay the complainant a compensation of N 2, 417, 000 or 12 months imprisonment in default.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported at the Rantya police station on September 7, by Mr Kalu Okomba.
He said the accused person broke into Okomba’s house and vandalised his pop ceilings and stole the electrical fittings in the building valued at N 2, 417,000.
The prosecutor further told the court that during investigation, the accused confessed to have committed the offence.
The offence, he said, contravened the Plateau Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
