The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nasarawa State has said it will display the preliminary voter register across the 147 electoral wards in the state from October 9 to October 15.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Mohammed Abubakar, stated this at a press conference on Wednesday in Lafia.

Mr Abubakar, represented by the Administrative Secretary of the commission, Ajuh Jacob, said the exercise was in compliance with Section 19 (1) of the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended).

He said the Act required the commission to display the preliminary voter register not later than 90 days before the general elections.

According to him, the seven-day exercise will provide an opportunity for registered voters to verify their details, make claims and objections, and collect their permanent voter cards (PVCs).

He urged registered voters to use the period to check their names, photographs, dates of birth and polling units and report any discrepancies.

He stated, “Voters will check their names and other details and make claims from October 9 to October 15.”

The REC said PVCs from the first phase of the continuous voter registration conducted from August 18 to December 10, 2025, would be available for collection at the electoral wards during the display period.

He added that uncollected PVCs would subsequently be available for collection at INEC offices in the headquarters of the 13 local government areas of the state.

Mr Abubakar advised persons who participated in subsequent phases of the continuous voter registration not to panic, saying their PVCs would be distributed after those from the first phase.

He explained that the commission would continue to distribute PVCs until seven days before the 2027 general elections.

“PVCs will still be distributed until seven days before the general election, so the commission will still issue unclaimed PVCs to owners if they come to our offices for collection,” he said.

Mr Abubakar said the display would also enable the commission to identify and remove ineligible registrations, including underage and multiple registrations, based on complaints received.

He, therefore, urged eligible voters to participate actively in the exercise to ensure that the register was accurate and credible ahead of the elections.
