Zamfara mums beg for support to save malnourished children

Some nursing mothers in Zamfara State suffering malnutrition have called for support to save their lives and their children.
The mothers were admitted with their toddler children for severe malnutrition at the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau.
They made the appeal before the United Nation International Children Educational Fund Nigeria Representative, Christiane Munduate, during a visit to the facility.
Forty-three-year-old Malama Safa’atu Suleiman, who is nursing her 19-month-old baby, and 20-year-old Hassanatu Suleiman with a two-month- baby, appealed for medical and financial assistance to lead a normal life.
On her part, Malama Saratu Hassan, said she got married at 18 years and not happy seeing her two-month-old child in that condition.
She said her husband had travelled to Nasarawa State in search of livelihood and is now awaiting referral to Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching, Sokoto State for treatment.
Another mother, 20-year-old Rahama Muhammad from Saminaka in Gusau, nursing her second 13-month child suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting, made a similar appeal.
She appealed for assistance because her husband “is a farmer” and has not enough to provide for the family needs.
Forty-three-year-old and mother to a 20-year-old nursing mother, Safa’atu Suleiman, lamented that she and her 19 months baby were suffering from acute malnutrition.
Similarly, 23-year-old Zainab Idris said she was nursing her 15-month-old Jabir Musa suffering from chronic cough and solicited urgent financial help.
The Medical Director of the facility, Dr Aminu Mohammed Nahuche and the Health Specialist, UNICEF Sokoto Field Office, Dr Danjuma Nehemiah, in company with other top health officials, conducted Munduate round the hospital.
