Governor Dauda Lawal has commended voters for a peaceful council election in Zamfara.

Mr Lawal gave the commendation shortly after casting his vote at the Women Centre Polling Unit in Gusau on Saturday.

Mr Lawal, accompanied by his wife, Hurriya Dauda, expressed satisfaction with the turnout of voters across the state.

He said the reports he received across the 14 Local Government Areas of the state showed that the exercise was going peacefully without a hitch.

The governor also urged the voters to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the period of the exercise.

“I believe the peaceful process is going to yield positive and credible outcomes,” he assured.

Despite the LG election in the state, people went about their normal daily activities.

Some polling units opened behind schedule due to the late arrival of election materials.

Some of the voters in the affected polling units had left before the arrival of the election materials, while low voter turnout is observed in Tudunwada, Samaru, Gadabiyu and Damba areas within the state capital.

Some voters attributed the low turnout to the late arrival of electoral officials and voting materials in their respective polling units.

Twelve political parties are participating in the LG polls.
