Zamfara governor appoints new Community Protection Guards commandant

The Zamfara government has approved Maikano Adamu’s appointment as the acting commandant of the Community Protection Guards (CPG).
The appointment followed the suspension of the former commandant, Rabi’u Yandoto.
This was announced in a statement on Thursday by the commissioner for information and culture, Mannir Haidara.
Governor Dauda Lawal had in February 2024 launched the state-owned security outfit as part of measures to tackle the lingering insecurity.
“This is to inform the general public that Governor Dauda Lawal has approved the appointment of retired Maj. Maikano Adamu as the acting commandant of the State Community Protection Guards (CPG).
“The appointment followed the recent suspension of former state CPG commandant, retired Col. Rabi’u Yandoto by the state government,” he said.
The commissioner added that Mr Adamu was the deputy commandant of CPG before his appointment.
The former commandant’s suspension may be related to his recent radio interview, in which he accused the state government of not paying CPG staff salaries and providing insufficient logistics support to CPG operations.
