The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Akwa Ibom Command says it has deployed 783 personnel across the state to ensure a hitch-free yuletide celebration in the State.

The Akwa Ibom sector commander, Francis Ajatta, disclosed this on Tuesday in a statement made available to journalists in Uyo.

Mr Ajatta cautioned motorists to avoid unsafe road use practices during the period of celebration, stressing that the yuletide period is always characterised by increased vehicular and human traffic.

“To enable seamless and effective coverage of all critical traffic corridors and major routes, as well to ensure free flow of traffic within and across the state, the Command had deployed 783 personnel, including special marshals.

“In addition, 11 patrol vehicles, two ambulances, and a light-weight tow truck are also deployed for clearing of obstruction on any part of the roads” Mr Ajatta said.

He informed the motoring public that the perceived road hazards during the period were predominantly human factors, which could be avoided.

The sector commander urged all drivers licence applicants, who had completed their biometrics and physical capture to go and collect their licences.

He said that about 6,108 unclaimed drivers licences were at the various centres waiting for the owners to come for collection.

“Whereas the Command has been engaged in regular public enlightenment on road use culture, and traffic law enforcement; Mobile Court sessions will also be engaged to deter recalcitrant traffic offenders during the period.

“Remember, life has no duplicate. So, we must consciously strive to protect and safeguard our lives and safely share the roads with other road users.

“Our family members, friends and well-wishers eagerly wait to receive and welcome us back home alive,” he said.

He cautioned all road users to tread with caution as only the living celebrates.

Mr Ajatta called on the general public to remain active by observing all traffic rules and regulations and promptly report any emergencies to the FRSC toll-free line – 122.
