Yuletide: Enugu police warns residents against posting travel plans online

The Enugu Police Command on Wednesday warned against posting personal travel plans, locations, and itineraries on social media during the yuletide.
The command advised residents to keep such personal details within their families.
This is contained in a security and safety advisory issued by the command’s spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Wednesday in Enugu.
Mr Ndukwe urged residents using public transportation to travel only with reputable transport companies operating from recognised motor parks.
He said residents must avoid boarding roadside vehicles or unregistered transport services to avoid cases of “one-chance.”
“Provide correct information on travel manifests by filling out accurate and traceable personal information, as this will help emergency responders reach your family quickly, if necessary.
“Plan your movements, outings, and engagements carefully, and familiarise yourself with the security climate of your current location and any place you intend to visit.
“Do not embark on any journey without first assessing the safety of both the route and your destination.
“Pay attention to unfamiliar faces, behaviours, or unusual movements around you and report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest security agency without delay,” he said.
Mr Ndukwe cautioned that high speed increases the risk of accidents, adding that residents must avoid night journeys, driving in poor visibility, and consuming alcohol before and during driving.
“Avoid all distractions while driving, such as texting, unsafe calls, or device manipulation, and make sure all passengers wear seat belts (front and back seats).
“Do not hide spare keys under mats, flowerpots, or any predictable place; where necessary, entrust your keys to a trustworthy person or institution such as your church or mosque.
“Switch on outside lights to create uncertainty about your presence and turn off all electrical appliances and sockets before travelling, while ensuring fire alarms (if installed) are functional.
“Avoid storing petrol or other flammable substances inside your home, and place fire extinguishers in accessible areas while keeping emergency fire service numbers easily accessible,” he said.
