The Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH), Damaturu, has secured full accreditation by the West African College of Physicians (WACP) to train 25 resident doctors.

Governor Mai Mala Buni said this in a statement on Monday by Mamman Mohammed, the director-general of press and media affairs, government house, Damaturu.

Mr Buni stated this during an unscheduled inspection visit to the Community Medicine Department of the hospital, constructed by his administration.

According to Mr Buni, the accreditation and completion of the facility would enhance manpower training.

“The accreditation and completion of the project are indeed monumental achievements by the administration towards enhancing manpower training for improved healthcare service delivery,” Mr Buni was quoted as saying in the statement.

Musa Mustapha (APC – Yobe East) and other top government officials accompanied the governor on the visit.

The accreditation followed a recommendation by the WACP team of experts, which visited the department between November 11 and 14, 2024.

In a letter to the hospital, WACP secretary-general Musa Dankyau said the full accreditation was for five years.

“Junior residents, 15 in number, and senior residents, 10.

“Please note that you are expected to reapply for reaccreditation six months before the due date of 23rd March 2030.”
