Xmas: Police, FRSC partner to ease traffic congestion on Niger bridges

The police command in Anambra says it is collaborating with its Delta counterpart to tackle traffic congestion at the first and second Niger bridges before, during and after Christmas.
Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga in Anambra told journalists in Awka on Thursday that the partnership also involved the FRSC.
“The Anambra state police command has commenced joint operations with the state command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Delta state police command.
“This is a proactive strategy to address traffic congestions in the state, especially at the first and second Niger bridges during and after this Yuletide period,” he said.
Mr Ikenga said that the move was embedded in the operational plan of the police commissioner Nnaghe Itam.
According to him, this is after a security assessment in the state with the management of the police command to ensure that every sundry issue is addressed.
He said the police chief visited the two bridges with the FRSC.
The officer added that Mr Itam also alerted the police commissioner in Delta on the need for cooperation and intensification of surveillance to nip in the bud all criminal activities on the road.
He said the police command in the state would continue to explore strategies to ensure the safety of the travelling public.
Mr Ikenga said the command remained committed to consolidating on the gains recorded in crime prevention, restoring law and order and improving the safety and security of lives and property in the state.
