The police command in Ogun has warned against using fireworks, knockouts and bangers during the Christmas season, citing public safety concerns.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

According to him, comprehensive security measures have been adopted before, during and after the 2025 Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Mr Babaseyi said the ban on the sale and use of fireworks, knockouts and bangers remains in force across the state.

He explained that loud sounds from such items could be mistaken for gunshots, causing fear, panic and unnecessary tension among residents.

“Parents and guardians should caution their children and wards against fireworks. Anyone whose actions cause public disturbance, injury or damage to property will be arrested and prosecuted according to the law,” he said.

Mr Babaseyi said commanders and tactical units had been directed to intensify patrols and increase visibility across public places and major highways.

Police commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo urged residents to celebrate peacefully, obey the law and cooperate with security agencies.

Mr Ogunlowo assured residents of adequate security throughout the festive period and beyond. He urged the public to report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines, including Gateway Shield on 0800 000 9111.
