WTT Contender Lagos: Nigerian players miss mixed doubles semi-finals

The mixed doubles semi-finals of the 2024 World Table Tennis (WTT) Contender Lagos will not feature Nigerian players after they were knocked out in the opening session of day three of the tournament on Friday.
Most experienced Nigerians in the tournament, Omotayo Olajide and Edem Offiong, who teamed up for the mixed doubles event, were defeated 3-1 (11-4, 11-9, 5-11, 11-4) by the South Korean duo of Lim Jonghoon and Shin Yubin to reach the last four.
Another Nigerian duo, Kuti Matthew and Bello Fatimo, lost their quarter-final match 3-0 (11-4, 11-3, 12-10) to the Indian duo of Thakkar Manav Vikash and Kamath Archana Girish.
Chinese duo of Luo Jiecheng and Xu Huiyao defeated the Indian duo of Desai Harmeet and Ghorpade Yashaswini 3-1 (9-11, 15-13, 12-10, 11-7), while the Indian duo of Shah Manush Utpalbhai and Chitale Diya Parag thrashed Chinese duo of Kim Woojin and Yoo Siwoo 3-0 ((6-11, 5-11, 6-11).
In the mixed doubles semi-final games, Jonghoon and Yubin will face Thakkar and Kamath, while Chitale and Shah lock horns with Xu and Luo, where they will compete for spots in this year’s final.
