Woman, 34, faces prosecution over alleged theft of cell phone worth N90,000

A 34-year-old woman, Adesewa Ogundele, on Wednesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing a Tecno Provonio phone valued at N90,000.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing and breach of peace.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against her.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adejare, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 27, at about 10:00 a.m at No. 8 Peace Avenue in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant stole a Tecno Provonio phone valued at N90, 000 belonging to one Opeloye Abosede.
Mr Adejare also alleged that the defendant conducted herself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace.
According to him, the offence contravened Sections 302 and 181(1) (d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendant, Mrs Joy Raphael, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that she would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Awosika, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case till May 22, for hearing.
