A 30-year-old woman, Rosemary Chukwudi, on Wednesday, appeared before an Asaba Magistrates’ Court, Delta State, over alleged breach of peace.

Chukwudi is standing trial before Magistrate Edith Anumodu, on a charge of causing breach of peace.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Susan John, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 4, 2024, at the Isieke area of Asaba.

She told the court that the defendant allegedly harassed a nominal complainant, one Lydia Emeninu, by summoning her to one ”Juju Adof” shrine.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant shouted at the complainant, and also summoned her to the deity.

The offence contravenes the provisions of section 249(d) of the Criminal Code Cap C21, Law of Delta State 2006.

The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of one million naira, with one surety in like sum.

The court ordered that the surety must reside in Asaba, and must provide means of identification as well as electricity bills.

She adjourned the case until February 27, for hearing
