Despite avoidable challenges confronting Nigerians, the chief imam of Lagos Central Mosque, Ridhwan Jamiu, has commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as a job well done.

“We are proud of you,” the cleric was quoted in a statement by the presidential aide, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday. “I remember that we encouraged people to vote for you during the campaigns. We thank God that you have not disappointed us.”

In his Friday sermon, the cleric described Mr Tinubu as exemplifying justice and fairness, saying the president’s actions are praiseworthy.

“We know you are capable. We know you have the sagacity. We know you are competent. We have seen righteousness in you and fairness and justice in you. Please, keep it up and sustain it,” the statement noted.

Mr Jamiu further urged the president to be alive to the needs of Nigerians, stressing the importance of accountability.

“We believe and pray that you are not going to disappoint us. Remember accountability and responsibility to the people. Responsibility is to the people, and accountability is to Allah when you return to him,” noted the statement.

Mr Tinubu’s economic policies, fuel subsidy removal and floating of the naira, has triggered economic hardship characterised by spiking food prices.

However, in his maiden media chat, the president defended his policies, insisting tough decisions were necessary to save the country from collapse.
