The All Progressives Congress says it will run an issue-based campaign centred on President Bola Tinubu’s achievements ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Abdulaziz Yari, the director-general of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja after meeting Mr Tinubu at the State House.

Mr Yari, a former governor of Zamfara, was accompanied by APC national chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, to brief the president on campaign preparations. He said the council had resolved to present the federal government’s record to Nigerians and use its achievements to seek another presidential mandate.

Mr Yari said the party would avoid personal attacks, insults and name-calling, insisting that its campaign would focus on evidence of the administration’s performance.

“As a council, what do we say we are going to do? We are going to do a campaign with the records. A responsible campaign, no insults, no calling of names because there’s no name before us, but we have a record before us to show to Nigerians,” Mr Yari explained.

He said the campaign would give Nigerians a chance to engage with Tinubu’s policies and programmes and explain why the administration deserved another term.

“This is what our party did. This is what our government did, so because of that, we are asking, pleading with Nigerians to look at this record carefully so that they give us a second chance for continuity,” he added.

The remarks came as the ruling party prepared to launch its nationwide presidential campaign in Kaduna on Saturday.

Mr Yilwatda claimed that major opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Accord, supported Tinubu’s re-election campaign. He described the development as evidence of growing political support for the president ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to Mr Yilwatda, the APC had attracted support from parties that previously defeated it in elections, suggesting broader political alignment behind Tinubu’s second-term bid.

“If you look at what the party is doing now, the opposition is with us. All political parties that have defeated us in any election are all with us. PDP is with us, APGA is with us, Accord is with us. These are the only political parties that have defeated us, except APM, and they are all with us in this campaign.

“It shows that the entire Nigerian political cycle is Mr President, and that’s what we’re doing now to ensure that we prepare for this grand flag-off in Kaduna,” he said.
