Violence erupts in Kogi, two killed, four injured

The police command in Kogi says at least two persons were killed in a violent clash.
The killing was in Sherya village, Bassa local government area of Kogi, on Tuesday as a violent communal clash erupted.
Another clash between Bassa and Ingburra tribes left four people seriously injured and properties worth millions of naira destroyed.
Police spokesman William Ovye-Aya said on Wednesday in Lokoja that normalcy had been restored by security agents deployed to the area.
He said the clashes erupted despite several measures taken by the state government to ensure peaceful coexistence among the citizens in the area.
Also, Jerry Omodara, Governor Yahaya Bello’s special adviser on security, said the violence was “unnecessary and disturbing.”
“We are really surprised over the renewed clash in Bassa local government area because the government had taken every necessary step to ensure peace reign in that area,” said Mr Omodara. “As we speak, I and all heads of security agencies in the state are on our way to Sherya village in Bassa to get first-hand information on the root cause of Tuesday’s renewed clash.”
Several persons were killed, and over 20 houses were razed in June in a similar clash between the two tribes.
