Bayern Munich and Real Madrid settled for a 2-2 draw in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final tie between the two football heavyweights at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night.
The two teams will again face off in the second leg of the encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu next week Wednesday. One of the teams will progress to the final, where it will face either Paris Saint-Germain or Borussia Dortmund.
In the opening minutes of today’s Germany match, Leroy Sane could have given Bayern Munich the lead following a through pass from Harry Kane into the box, but the former Manchester City star’s effort was saved by Andriy Lunin.
Meanwhile, Vinicius Junior put Madrid ahead in the 24th minute. Toni Krossx laid a through pass to the Brazilian from the middle of the field, calmly slotted in as he went one-on-one with Manuel Neuer.
It was redemption for Sane eight minutes after the halftime break as the German fired a left-footed shot into the bottom-right corner of the net to equalise for the Bavarians – Konrad Laimer assisted the goal.
Both teams would score one penalty each through Harry Kane in the 57th minute and Vinicius — his brace of the night (83rd minute), to settle for a stalemate ahead of the return leg in Spain with everything on the line to play for.
Speaking after the match, Vinicius, who was voted the Man of the Match, said, “It was a gift from Toni Kroos. He made it easy for me to score that goal!” he told Movistar. “It’s now time for a magic night at the Bernabéu.”
