Victor Boniface wins Bundesliga ‘Rookie of the Year’ award

Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface, has capped off a remarkable debut season in Germany by claiming the coveted Bundesliga Rookie of the Year award.
The 23-year-old forward, who arrived at Bayer Leverkusen from FK Bodø/Glimt last summer, took the league by storm, establishing himself as a key player for the Werkself.
He helped Bayer Leverkusen win its first German top-flight league title for the first time in the club’s history.
The 23-year-old has so far scored 13 goals and assisted eight goals as Bayer Leverkusen secured the Bundesliga title and might do so without losing any single game if the new champions beat Augsburg in their final league match on Saturday.
Boniface had already won the monthly edition of Rookie award four times this season and winning the overall campaign’s ‘Rookie of the Year’ award crowned the incredible performance of the Akure-born player for Bayer Leverkusen this season.
Reacting to the news, the player wrote on X, “9ja (Nigeria) no dey carry last. Thank you guys.”
Earlier this month, Boniface was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season alongside five of his Bayer Leverkusen teammates which include Granit Xhaka, Florian Wirtz, Alex Grimaldo, Jeremie Frimpong, and Jonathan Tah.
Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane, Borussia Dortmund’s goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, VfB Stuttgart’s Waldemar Anton, Bayern Munich’s midfielder Jamal Musiala and forward Serhou Guirassy of VfB Stuttgart are other members of the Team of the Season.
