VeryDarkMan did not report claim of stolen N180 million to us: Police

Nigerian police have denied claims by influencer Martins “VeryDarkMan” Otse that N180 million was stolen from his NGO’s account, stating that he did not report the matter to them.
Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, refuted Mr Otse’s statement that the case was under investigation.
“The FCT Police Command is not aware of any case involving VDM’s missing funds and is not conducting any investigation into it,” Ms Adeh said.
She added, “The individual in question should be contacted to clarify where the matter was reported, as there is no record of such a case with the FCT Police Command.”
The denial follows Mr Otse’s assertion that the police were investigating the hackers who allegedly stole N180 million from his NGO’s account.
“I’ve not been myself these past few days,” Mr Otse wrote in an Instagram post on Friday. “Somebody hacked into the NGO website, and ₦180 million is missing. Thankfully, we’ve tracked the person, and one suspect has been arrested.”
In the video, Mr Otse showed an officer named Joseph, claiming the officer was involved in the investigation and that they were travelling to Plateau State to track the hackers.
However, Alfred Alabo, spokesperson for the Plateau Police Command, also stated: “The case has not been reported to our command.”
Mr Otse’s claim has sparked reactions among Nigerians, as many wondered how hackers accessed his NGO’s account through his website.
