UniMaid appoints Mohammed Mele as substantive vice-chancellor

The University of Maiduguri’s governing council has approved Mohammed Mele’s appointment as substantive vice-chancellor.
The council announced this in a statement by the university’s registrar, Ahmad Lawan, on Wednesday in Maiduguri.
He said the development was sequel to the recommendation of the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.
“The Governing Council of the University of Maiduguri, at its special meeting held on Wednesday, 18th September 2024, has approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele as the substantive vice-chancellor of the University.
“This followed the recommendation of the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board, which interviewed four applicants for the post. The appointment takes effect on Wednesday, 18th September 2024.
“Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele is a distinguished scholar of English Language and Linguistics with over two decades of dedicated service in teaching,” the statement said.
Until his appointment, Mr Mele was the university’s acting vice-chancellor, and he held several academic and administrative positions at the university, including the deputy vice-chancellor (Central Administration).
Mr Mele hails from Mafa Local Government Area of Borno.
