UNICAL VC inaugurates five shuttle buses for campus transportation

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Florence Obi, on Saturday, inaugurated five shuttle buses for easier commuting of students and staff on campus.
The mini-buses which were purchased by the Student Union Government of the institution with the support of the VC, was the pet project of the SUG President, Blessing Alims. Inaugurating the buses, Ms Obi commended the SUG President for the initiative, adding that she had written her name in the history of the institution.
She said, “I am excited with the SUG President and her team for bringing up the initiative because I have always advocated, since I came onboard as VC for the SUG to have a very visible project. I know that whatever project they conceive, they can execute because of their huge population and the dues they receive, any project is possible. Transportation is a critical part of campus life and the SUG in collaboration with the university management has come up with this initiative to ease movement of staff and students on campus.’’
In her remarks, Ms Alims stated that the procurement of the SUG shuttle buses was a dream come true for her as it would reduce stress and enhance security on campus for those moving at night.
Ms Alims said that the SUG was committed to partnering with the vice chancellor and the institution’s management towards providing a safer conducive environment for learning and research in UniCal.
