The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has called for an investigation into the deaths of three Russian journalists and other civilians in the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR).

Spokeswoman Elizabeth Throssell told RIA Novosti on Tuesday that the OHCHR stated that those responsible for the deaths should be prosecuted.

On Monday, three Russian media workers were killed in Ukraine’s artillery attack on the LPR: Izvestia correspondent Alexander Fedorchak, Zvezda cameraman Andrey Panov, and the driver of the film crew, Alexander Sirkeli.

LPR head Leonid Pasechnik confirmed that six people, including the three media workers, were killed due to artillery shelling of the Kremensky municipal district by Ukrainian forces.

“We are concerned about reports that six people, including three Russian journalists, were killed and a 14-year-old boy was injured in the occupied Kreminskyi district in Luhansk region as a result of a rocket strike.

“We call for the incident to be fully investigated and for those responsible to be held accountable. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk emphasises the protection of journalists everywhere,” Mr Throssell said.
