Umar Bago wins Niger APC governorship ticket

Umar Bago, a member of the House of Representatives, representing Chanchaga Federal Constituency, Niger, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary held on Friday.
Mr Bago polled 540 votes out of 1,049 cast to defeat nine other aspirants.
Announcing the result, Nasiru Ibrahim, chairman of the Niger governorship primaries committee 2022, said the total number of votes cast was 1,049 while 11 votes were invalid.
He explained that Mr Bago polled 540 votes to defeat Mohammed Malagi who scored 386 votes followed by Sani Ndanusa who scored 84 votes.
He further stated that Ahmed Ketso got 17 votes while Mohammed Rufai-Mohammed scored four votes and Idris Usman scored three votes.
Also, he said Mohammed Nda, Aliyu Idris and Mohammed Kputagi, scored one vote each.
Other aspirants did not get a single vote.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Bago said, “I am calling on people to behave in an orderly manner and be law abiding, we can’t in the spirit of jubilation destroy lives and property.”
