UK Royal Mail to cut 2,500 jobs in 2027

The UK Royal Mail on Wednesday announced plans to cut 2,500 jobs in 2027 as part of efforts to restructure amid declining letter delivery demand and struggle to meet delivery timelines.
Royal Mail said that the job cuts, which amount to two per cent of over 130,000 staff, would come largely from voluntary resignations and redundancies.
“These proposed changes remove duplication and allow us to invest further in the service we deliver for our customers,” CEO Alistair Cochrane said in a statement.”The proposed changes will not be easy, but they are an important part of building a stronger, simpler and future-ready Royal Mail for our customers and colleagues.”
The centuries-old organisation said it was consulting with Labour unions such as the Communication Workers Union (CWU) and Unite CMA over the proposed cuts.
The CWU said the planned job cut was “further evidence of a company that is demoralising staff and failing to deliver for customers and the wider community.”
‘We urge the government to confront the reality of a collapsing Royal Mail and intervene to save this national institution,” the BBC quoted deputy general secretary Martin Walsh as saying.
