UCL: Diomande, Mbappe score as Real Madrid thrash RB Leipzig 4-1; Arsenal, Bayern Munich settle for draw
Youngster Yan Diomande scored against his former club, RB Leipzig, at the Bernabeu Stadium as Real Madrid thrashed the German club 4-1 to make it three wins from three matches in the UEFA Champions League this season.
Despite being the better team, Real Madrid were unable to break the deadlock until the 43rd minute, when Bernardo Silva scored to open the scoring. Arda Guler doubled the lead in the 52nd minute, finishing off an assist from Kylian Mbappe.
Thirty minutes later, Mbappe got on the scoresheet to make it 3-0, but Tidiam Gomis quickly pulled one back for Leipzig two minutes later.
Diomande volleyed home an assist from Brahim Diaz in the 87th minute to seal the victory for the hosts.
The win moved Real Madrid to fourth in the Champions League standings, while Leipzig dropped to 30th.
Meanwhile, at the Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich and Arsenal settled for a 2-2 draw in a close encounter in Munich. Eberechi Eze put Arsenal ahead in the 25th minute after driving the ball into the 18-yard box before firing home.
Alphonso Davies, however, equalised for the hosts in the 35th minute, thanks to an assist from Harry Kane. Kane then scored from the spot in the 61st minute to put Bayern ahead for the first time in the match.
Bayern Munich managed to maintain the lead until the 82nd minute, when Declan Rice latched on to a pass from Viktor Gyokeres and scored from the bottom-left corner of the penalty area to rescue a point for the Gunners.
