U.S. to execute Nidal Hasan by firing squad December 3

The U.S. Army says it will execute Nidal Hasan by firing squad on December 3 for killing 13 American soldiers and injuring 32 others in 2009.
A memo dated October 6, 2026, from the office of the U.S. Secretary of the Army, signed by Adam Telle, said Mr Hasan would be executed on December 3 by 1:00 p.m. (CT) at Fort Hood, Texas.
This followed President Donald Trump’s approval on October 2.
Mr Hasan’s execution will mark the first death by firing squad for the U.S. military since World War II, about 60 years ago.
Mr Hasan, popularly called the “Fort Hood shooter” after the incident, is a U.S.-born Arab American of Palestinian descent and a former U.S. Army major. He was convicted of mass murder after perpetrating the Fort Hood shooting on November 5, 2009.
Court-martialled in 2013, Mr Hasan was convicted of mass murder and has remained in detention on death row at the United States Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, after losing every appeal to the Supreme Court.
Mr Hasan, 56, served as a psychiatrist in the Army Medical Corps until 2009, when he carried out the shooting.
