U.S. Coast Guard suspends search for passengers after medical aircraft disappears

The United States Coast Guard has announced the suspension of search and rescue operations for the passengers of a Gulfstream G100 aircraft that disappeared on Saturday.
According to the agency, the medical plane carried four Canadians and two Bermudians on a flight from Bermuda to Boston when air traffic controllers lost contact with the aircraft.
“The Coast Guard has suspended its search Sunday, October 4, 2026, for the six passengers aboard the missing medical transport aircraft off the coast of Nantucket. At approximately 2:00 a.m. Saturday, the Federal Aviation Administration notified the Coast Guard that contact had been lost with the Gulfstream G100 aircraft while it was travelling from Bermuda to Boston,” the Coast Guard said.
After the report of contact loss, the U.S. Coast Guard said it and its partners immediately deployed assets that covered an estimated 4,445 miles in two days but did not locate the plane.
“There were six passengers aboard the aircraft, including four Canadian nationals and two Bermuda nationals. Next of kin have been notified. Coast Guard and partner agency assets searched 4445 miles over approximately 66 hours,” the agency said.
Other partners that participated in the operation included an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aeroplane crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, an HC-130 Hercules crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod.
Others were 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crews from Coast Guard Station Brant Point, the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter William Sparling, a Boston-based Fast Response Cutter, Two HH-60 helicopter crews from the New York Air National Guard’s 106th Rescue Wing, and HC-130 aircraft from the New York Air National Guard’s 106th Rescue Wing.
Commenting on the suspension of search operations, Rear Admiral Matthew Lake, Commander of the Northeast District, said the decision was not taken lightly, adding, “We express our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones affected by the tragedy and our gratitude for our partner agencies who helped support search efforts.”
Meanwhile, the U.S. Coast Guard said appropriate agencies would investigate the incident.
