Two sexagenarians were on Wednesday remanded in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, over an alleged N1.7 million car fraud.

The police charged Joshua Ojo, 66, and Joseph Fatubarin, 64, with conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretence and theft.

The prosecution counsel, Phillip Amusan, told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offence on June 8, 2023, at Adeayo junction, Ibadan.

Mr Amusan alleged that the defendants and others, now at large, fraudulently obtained N1.7 million from one Sunday Adebowale on the pretence of selling a Toyota Camry to him.

The prosecutor further alleged that the defendants converted the money to their personal use.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 516, 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Olaolu Olanipekun, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

He adjourned the case until February 19 for hearing.
