Two Plateau men jailed 24 months for stealing phones

On Monday, an Area Court in Jos sentenced two men, Rabiu Jibril and Bilal Umaru, to 12 months imprisonment each for stealing two mobile phones valued at N620,000.
The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced the convicts after they pleaded guilty to the offence.
The judge, however, gave them an option of a fine of N100,000 each or 12 months imprisonment each and ordered that they each pay a compensation of N250,000 to the complainants or risk another 12 months in jail each on default.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Ijuptil Thlawur, told the court that the case was reported at the Anglo Jos Police Station on January 6 by Favour Donald and Queen Ochanya, the complainants.
He said the convicts trespassed into the shop of the first complainant while she was making the hair of the second complainant and threatened them with a knife and stole an iPhone 11 Promax and a Techno Spark 30, all valued at N620,000.
The prosecutor said that during the police investigation, the accused persons had confessed to the crime.
