Two men remanded for stealing railway equipment

An Upper Customary Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna, has ordered two men accused of stealing railway equipment remanded in prison custody.
The accused persons, Timothy Yohanna and Lazarus Ishaya were charged by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) with criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, mischief and theft.
The NSCDC prosecutor, Marcus Audu, told the court that the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Kafanchan, reported the matter to the corps on September 2.
Mr Audu said the duo gained access to the corporation’s store through the roof and stole some items, including an air valve, elbow t-joint and tapping valve.
He said their action contravened sections 59, 237, 313 and 271 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.
Messrs Yohanna and Ishaya pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.
The prosecutor prayed to the court for an adjournment to enable him to call witnesses to prove the case against them.
The presiding judge, George Gwani, ordered the accused persons to be remanded in a correctional facility and adjourned until September 22 for a hearing.
