Two people were taken to the hospital, and around 30 others were evacuated after a fire broke out in a residential building in central Singapore on Wednesday night.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force disclosed this on Thursday.
Firefighters were alerted to the incident at around 10:50 p.m. local time (1450 GMT) and arrived to find the living room of a 10th-floor unit ablaze.

The SCDF made this known on a Facebook post.

One person in a bedroom was assessed by a paramedic for smoke inhalation and burn injuries, while another resident from a unit on the 14th floor experienced breathlessness.

Both individuals were taken to the hospital.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire likely originated from the battery of a personal mobile device in the living room.

The SCDF reminded the public to avoid purchasing or using non-original batteries for their mobility devices and warned against prolonged or overnight charging, citing fire safety risks.
