Two people died and two others sustained injuries in a road collision along the Adekunle corridor, inward Iyana Oworo, Lagos State.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday in Lagos.

Mr Bakare-Oki said the collision involved a Suzuki commercial bus, with registration number KTU 333 YF, and a pickup van.

He stated that LASTMA operatives promptly arrived at the scene to coordinate rescue operations, secure the accident site and evacuate the casualties.

He said, “During the rescue operation, the two deceased victims were evacuated by LASTMA personnel and handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU).

“The two critically injured survivors were swiftly conveyed to the General Hospital, Odan, for urgent medical attention and further treatment.”

The LASTMA boss said the vehicles involved and the Suzuki bus driver were handed over to security agents from the Yaba Police Division.

He added that the police provided security reinforcement and maintained order until the rescue and recovery operations were completed.

Mr Bakare-Oki expressed sympathy to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy and complete recovery.

He urged motorists to exercise greater vigilance, obey traffic regulations and observe prescribed speed limits to prevent avoidable road crashes.

He added, “LASTMA urges motorists to exercise exceptional caution, maintain safe following distances, avoid reckless manoeuvres and ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy at all times.

“The authority also calls on all road users to prioritise safety and demonstrate an unwavering regard for human life while navigating the state’s road network.”
