Two die, nine injured in Lagos-Abeokuta expressway crash

The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps says two persons lost their lives and nine others were injured in an accident involving three vehicles at Tipper Garage on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
Adekunle Ajibade, South-West area commander of TRACE, confirmed the accident on Tuesday. He explained that the accident, which involved 14 people, a Daf truck with registration number JJJ 144 XD, a Mazda bus with registration number EPE 394 XP, and a tricycle marked DGB 599 VC, happened at about 7:40 p.m. on Monday.
Mr Ajibade stated that the truck was parked on a slope at the entrance of a warehouse opposite the Tipper garage, with the engine running and the handbrake applied by the driver.
He disclosed that the driver exited the truck to deliver a waybill to security guards at the gate of the warehouse.
Mr Ajibade said the truck eventually reversed onto the expressway after disengaging the handbrake, causing the accident, leading to the death of two people and nine others sustained injuries, while three were unhurt.
“The corpses of victims have been deposited at the Ifo General Hospital, Ogun, while the survivors are also receiving treatment in the same hospital,” he said.
Mr Ajibade said a rescue operation was carried out by TRACE and Federal Road Safety Corps personnel while the vehicles were removed from the road to ease the flow of traffic.
He advised motorists to reduce speed and adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
