U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday temporarily halted the delivery of all U.S military aid to Ukraine following a meeting that ended in a shouting match with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington last week.

According to the New York Times, senior administration and military officials confirmed the latest order by Mr Trump, which is expected to affect more than $1 billion in arms and ammunition orders meant for Ukraine that are still in the United States or already in transit to the war-ravaged country.

The decision to pause exports of aid to Ukraine was taken after a series of meetings at the White House between Mr Trump and his national security aides on Monday, amid the recent fallout between the American leader and Mr Zelensky over their different positions on ways to end the war in Ukraine.

The Times reported that the officials said the directive would be in effect until Mr Trump determined that Ukraine had demonstrated a good-faith commitment to peace negotiations with Russia.

Mr Trump’s decision is expected to dramatically change the landscape of the situation on the ground in Ukraine, which has heavily relied on military and financial support from the United States since the Russian invasion of the country began in February 2022.
