Troops kill 10 terrorists in Plateau, recover arms

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, killed 10 suspected terrorists in Daba and Seri communities in Wase and Kemal Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
In a statement on Friday, Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, spokesperson for the Joint Task Force for Operation Enduring Peace, said the incident occurred on April 9, 2026, as troops intensified clearance operations across identified flashpoints.
“Despite initial resistance, the terrorists were overwhelmed with superior firepower, leading to the neutralisation of 10 terrorists while some fled in disarray into the surrounding forest, leaving behind a trail of casualties”, Mr Oteh said.
According to him, at about 08:30 am on April 9, troops established strategic blocking positions between Dutsen Zaki and Odare Forest. During the operation, a group of armed men on motorcycles was sighted moving along a known transit route.
In a separate follow-up operation triggered by reports of an attack on commuters along the Razat and Kafi Abu axis, troops launched additional clearance operations in surrounding communities.
According to the spokesman, the troops conducted rigorous cordon-and-search operations across the villages of Suma Suga and Takwok, as well as the adjacent mountainous terrain.
The operations led to the recovery of weapons and logistics items allegedly abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
“Among the items recovered were three AK-47 rifles, three AK-47 magazines, and eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two motorcycles, and five 25-litre jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) intended for the terrorists’ logistics”, Mr Oteh added.
He added that a national identity card and a photograph believed to belong to suspects were also recovered, which could assist ongoing investigations.
“Troops are on high alert and are currently in pursuit of the fleeing terrorists and their collaborators,” he added.
