Tricyclist docked for knocking down policewoman

A 23-year-old tricyclist, Gabriel Lawal, was on Thursday docked in the Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly knocking down and injuring a policewoman.
The police charged Mr Lawal, who resides in Alagbado, Lagos, with reckless driving, driving without a licence and dangerous driving.
Prosecution counsel, Samuel Mishozunnu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 3, at 8:00 p.m., along Kola Bus Stop, Alagbado, Lagos.
He said the defendant drove a tricycle with registration number RAD 667 QJ in a reckless manner and hit a police officer, Jokotola Akinfolarin, on her way back from the office.
Mr Mishozunnu said Ms Akintolarin sustained severe bodily injuries.
The offence, he said, is punishable under sections 50(1), 12 and 51 of the Road Traffic Law Acts of Lagos State, 2012.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The magistrate, O. O. Kolola, admitted the defendant to N200,000 bail with one surety.
Ms Kolola adjourned the case until August 15 for a hearing.
