“If farmers make proper use of the fertilisers, the cost of food commodities should become more affordable by harvest time,” he said.

The minister said each beneficiary would receive four bags of fertiliser free of charge.
The group comprises stakeholders from government, regulatory agencies, academia, research institutions, the private sector and development partners.
Farmers in the Dutse LGA of Jigawa have expressed optimism for a productive farming season this year.
“If the government takes the right decisions before June 20, we will be able to avert a food crisis later in the year,” he said.
He said the early procurement has saved the country over 42 million dollars ahead of peak planting.
