Minister of aviation, Festus Keyamo, says President Bola Tinubu must be reelected for a second term in 2027, adding, “It will be tragic for any government to come in 2027 and stop all these reforms.”

In an interview with Channels TV on Monday, the aviation minister said Mr Tinubu’s reelection is important for his policies to be sustained.

“I don’t care whether it affects me, I don’t care whether I lose out politically, Mr President must be elected,” Mr Keyamo said.

He added, “Whether I have to make sacrifices like yesterday where we surrendered (party leadership in Delta), it is all irrelevant so long as we are strengthening APC the more for the re-election of Mr President.”

Mr Keyamo said all APC members should put aside their interests and make Mr Tinubu’s reelection their top priority.

“Every single APC member in Nigeria today should be concentrating on the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, irrespective of whether it affects your personal interest or not because he does need a second term to fully finish up all these reforms,” Mr Keyamo said.

Mr Keyamo’s support for Mr Tinubu’s reelection to ensure continuity of his policies comes amid a report by the International Monetary Fund stating that poverty and food inflation remain high under Mr Tinubu’s watch.

Last week, the World Bank’s Africa Pulse report of April 2025 stated that Nigeria, under Mr Tinubu, has the highest number of extremely poor people globally.

The report also predicted a grim future for Nigeria, warning that many more Nigerians will be plunged into poverty by 2027 under Mr Tinubu’s watch.
