President Bola Tinubu has approved the upgrade of the Ibadan domestic airport, Alakia, to an international airport.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state disclosed this on Wednesday at the state Government House in Ibadan.

The governor said, “The President has graciously approved my request for the upgrade of Ibadan Airport to an International Airport.”

The approval comes after the ninth Senate, led by Ahmad Lawan, had earlier called on the federal ministry of aviation and other relevant authorities to upgrade the airport.

Senator Kola Balogun (PDP-Oyo South) had during plenary presented the motion on “The need to upgrade the Airport with modern facilities,” which was co-sponsored by 37 senators.

The then senate president referred the motion to the Senate Committee on Aviation for further legislative action after the motion was unanimously approved.
