Ten rescued from collapsed Lagos storey building

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has said a storey building collapsed at Satellite Town on Thursday and responders from Ijegun-Egba pulled out ten victims alive from the rubble.

The LSFRS Controller General, Margaret Adeseye, in a statement, stated that the victims had been taken to the hospital for treatment, as rescue efforts continue.

Mrs Adeseye said, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received a distress call at 11:37 hours regarding a building collapse incident at Old Ojo Road, by Alakija Bus Stop, off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Satellite Town, Lagos.

“Emergency responders from the Ijegun-Egba Fire Station were immediately mobilised and arrived at the scene at 11:49 hours. The incident involves the collapse of a storey building, an existing residential structure occupied by multiple residents at the time of the incident.

“As of the time of this report, 10 persons have been rescued alive with varying degrees of injury and have been handed over to medical personnel for necessary treatment. Search and rescue operations remain ongoing as emergency responders continue efforts to locate, extricate, and evacuate any persons who may still be trapped beneath the debris.”

The LSFRS named other agencies involved in the rescue efforts as the Federal Fire Service, police, navy, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
