Teenager docked over theft of tricycle

The police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned a 19-year-old man, Ikechukwu Obiwa, at a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly stealing a tricycle valued N800,000.
Mr Obiwa of unknown address, is standing trial on a charge of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Akpan Uko, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 27, at about 7:20 a.m., at NNPC filling station, LASU/ Igando Road, Oba area of Lagos.
Mr Uko told the court that the defendant allegedly stole a tricycle with Registration number LSD 454 QJ valued at N800,000, belonging to Chigozie Ezeani, the complainant.
“The defendant was caught when he was planning to sell the stolen tricycle and handed over to the police for prosecution,” the prosecutor said.
Mr Uko said that the offence contravene Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Chief Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.
He said that one of the sureties must be gainfully employed.
Mr Adekomaiya adjourned the case until January 17, 2023 for mention.
