The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced on Friday that parts of Abuja will experience a seven-hour power outage due to scheduled maintenance at the Apo Transmission Substation.

TCN said this in a statement titled “Scheduled Preventive Maintenance on 2x100MVA Transformers at Apo Transmission Substation” and signed by its spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah.

The company said the blackout was unavoidable and would occur between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) informs the public that its maintenance crew will conduct annual preventive maintenance on the 2x100MVA, TR3 & TR4 transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja.

“The maintenance is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day,” TCN said.

It said the blackout would affect different areas each day. The National Hospital, G2 Injection Station, Garki, Area 1, and Asokoro will be affected on Saturday.

Areas to be affected on Sunday include Apo Legislative Quarters, Apo Resettlement, Gudu, Apo Mechanic, and surrounding areas will be affected.

“The planned power interruptions are unavoidable, as Abuja DisCo will be unable to receive bulk power supply from the transformers during the maintenance period,” the company said.

However, it apologised to customers for the inconvenience and assured them that the power supply would be restored as soon as the maintenance was completed.

“Power supply will be restored to the affected areas upon completion of the maintenance exercise. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause the affected electricity customers,” TCN said.
