American pop star Taylor Swift has announced her support for Veep Kamala Harris and called her a “warrior” who would fight for the “rights and causes” she believed in.

Shortly after the debate between Ms Harris and former President Donald Trump, Ms Swift took to her Instagram page to endorse the female candidate.

“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight,” the Grammy winner wrote on Instagram Tuesday night. “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”

Ms Swift signed the Instagram post as ‘Childless Cat Lady’ in reference to remarks by Mr Trump’s running mate, J.D Vance, who in 2021 criticised Ms Harris for being anti-family and said, “childless cat ladies” at the helms of leadership in America “want to make the rest of the country miserable too.”

Ms Harris, according to Ms Swift, is “a steady-handed, gifted leader, and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

Ms Swift also praised the Democrat vice presidential candidate, Tim Walz, for promoting LGBTQ rights.

“I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice,” Ms Swift stated. “Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first-time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story.”

The pop star with hundreds of millions of followers is believed to significantly influence the youth, a major demographic in the U.S. electorate.

In 2023, Ms Swift posted the voting link on her Instagram account, urging her followers to vote. The site registered approximately 35,000 new voters, which was a big deal, given it was not even a major election year.

The award-winning artiste further expressed concerns over using artificial intelligence, given that Mr Trump had shared some AI photos to imply that Ms Swift endorsed him last month falsely.

“It really conjured up my fears around AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” the pop icon wrote. “It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”
