Swift secures NCC licence for nationwide operation amid MTN, Airtel, Glo competition

Swift Telephone Network has secured a Unified Access Service Licence (UASL) from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
Oluwole Adetuyi, chief executive officer of STN, said in a statement on Thursday that the licence would enable STN to provide telecommunications services, including voice, data and access services across Nigeria.
Mr Adetuyi said the development marked STN’s transition from a telephone call service operating under an umbrella structure to an independent telecommunications company.
He described the licence as a new chapter in the company’s evolution.
“This UASL is not just a licence. It is a new chapter. The licence represents the company’s journey, resilience and plans to develop telecommunications infrastructure in Nigeria. We are building in Nigeria for Nigeria,” he said.
Mr Adetuyi said STN had evolved through changing economic conditions, regulatory developments and market challenges to become a full-service telecommunications operator.
He said the company would focus on developing a Nigerian telecommunications ecosystem through skills development, partnerships and infrastructure investment.
According to him, STN will train Nigerian engineers, technicians and digital professionals as part of its plans to strengthen indigenous technical capacity.
He said the company would also prioritise partnerships with Nigerian service providers, contractors and vendors across the telecommunications value chain.
Mr Adetuyi said STN would collaborate with global technology partners to deepen local technical capabilities and support infrastructure development.
He said the company planned to expand telecommunications infrastructure to improve access and help bridge Nigeria’s digital divide.
Mr Adetuyi added that STN would create employment and opportunities for Nigerian entrepreneurs in distribution, retail and support services.
“Our ambition is simple: to help build Nigeria’s digital economy from the ground up. The licence provides STN with a platform to pursue its plans, while Nigerian talent, partnerships and innovation will drive its growth,” he said.
The company said it would announce strategic partnerships, infrastructure rollout plans and stakeholder engagement programmes in the coming weeks.
The UASL authorises its holder to provide comprehensive telecommunications services, including fixed, mobile, voice and data services across Nigeria.
