Sweden urges LCBGF on implementation of Maiduguri’s resolutions

Joachim Beijimo, Sweden’s head of regional development cooperation in Africa, has urged the Lake Chad Governors’ Forum to propel action toward implementing strategies deliberated at the meeting.
Mr Beijimo, in an interview on Friday on the sidelines of the LCBGF meeting, however, lauded the high level of stakeholders’ engagement throughout the meeting.
The envoy said the presence of Vice-President Kashim Shettima demonstrated strong ownership of the stabilisation process by all participating countries.
“I am very happy with the conference, the turnout, the engagement at all levels, from the governors’ engagement, participants’ discussions, and the presence of the vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“I think that is a good sign that there is important ownership for this process for all the countries,” Mr Beijimo said.
He also commended the organisers for a well-executed event, noting that the meeting had successfully achieved its objective of establishing a shared vision and strategy for the region.
The envoy restated Swedish commitment to supporting the implementation of the regional stabilisation strategy.
He said that Sweden had been a key partner in the efforts since 2019, providing support through the Regional Stabilisation Facility, and pledged continued assistance.
“Sweden has been supporting the implementation of the stabilisation strategy since 2019, and we will continue to support it through the Regional Stabilisation Facility,” Mr Beijimo said.
