Suleja Prison: Security operatives capture 14 fleeing inmates; over 100 still at large

At least 14 out of the over 100 prisoners that fled the Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre in Niger State following havoc wrecked on the facility by heavy downpours have been re-arrested.
Adamu Duza, the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, said 14 of the fleeing inmates have been captured while others are still at large, Punch reported.
“Fourteen fleeing inmates have been recaptured so far. The search is still going on,” Punch quoted Mr Duza as saying on Thursday.
However, he made assurance that the various divisions of the Nigerian security forces are working together, combing nearby communities to ensure the fleeing inmates are re-captured.
“Our intelligence officers, armed squadron officers, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, and other security agencies, are combing neighbouring communities to find the fleeing inmates,” he said.
The custodial facility housing the prisoners was damaged on Wednesday night after a heavy downpour, which also breached the perimeter walls, allowing over 119 inmates to escape.
