Sterling confirms City exit in emotional farewell message

Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling has penned an emotional farewell note to the club’s fans, with an imminent move to Premier League rival Chelsea soon to be announced.
In a note that all but confirms the transfer, Sterling thanked his teammates and fans at the club, writing that he leaves the Etihad Stadium as “a man” after seven years with the Premier League champions.
“Seven seasons, eleven major trophies, a lifetime of memories,” he wrote.
“I am thankful for the ups and the downs as the downs have, at times, tested my strength and resolve and enabled me to stand in front of you as the best possible version of myself.
“I arrived in Manchester a 20-year-old. Today, I leave as a man. Thank you for your endless support. It’s been an honour to wear the shit of Manchester City.”
Sterling moved to Manchester City from Liverpool in 2015 for about £50m, becoming a central figure in the club’s recent successes, especially under Pep Guardiola.
The England star made 399 appearances and scored 131 goals while registering 95 assists.
Several reports confirm that the English forward has completed his £45 million transfer to Chelsea with his medical done on Tuesday. He is billed to join up with the team at their preseason camp in the U.S. anytime from now.
