The Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabir-Usman, has urged the states’ heads of service in the country to intensify efforts in instilling discipline in the civil servants to enhance their performance towards nation building.

He made the call on Tuesday when the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, and the 36 states’ heads of service paid him a courtesy visit at his Palace in Katsina.

Mr Kabir-Usman said addressing indiscipline among the civil servants would assist in solving some of the challenges facing the country.

He emphasised that whenever the administration sector of the government was at peace, the whole nation would also enjoy peace.

“In the recruitment of civil servants, after a person possesses the required certificate, he must also be disciplined.

“You can see a civil servant spending seven days or one month without going to the office without serving him/her query,” he said.

The emir observed that organising meetings like that would assist in addressing such issues.

“You should also be patient with people, praise civil servants where they did good, and punish them where they did wrong.

“Never sanction people without making an investigation, and have genuine reasons for what someone has done,” he urged.

Earlier, Ms Walson-Jack said they were in Katsina for a retreat to enhance commitment to the service delivery.

She said the retreat in Katsina also served as an opportunity to visit some of the historical places in the state.

The head of the civil service of the federation said no progress could be achieved without peace, unity and dialogue.

According to her, collaboration with traditional institutions also plays a vital role in enhancing service delivery.
