Sowore: OAU allegedly stops AAC presidential candidate from speaking at school event

Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) Omoyele Sowore has alleged the management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, failed to approve the use of the school’s amphitheatre for an event.
The students’ union invited him to speak at the ‘Convergence of Nigerian Youths 2023’ on the theme ‘Towards a youth-based economy: The presidential blueprint’.
The event slated for January 18, however, was stalled when the school authorities refused to approve the use of the amphitheatre for the programme, according to Mr Sowore’s account of the matter.
“Great Ife! We apologise that due to the unwillingness of the authorities at OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY, ILE-IFE to approve a space for our event in the university today we’ve postponed the event slated for OAU.#WeCantContinueLikeThis,” Mr Sowore wrote on his Facebook wall.
Abiodun Olanrewaju, the OAU spokesperson, did not immediately respond to messages of enquiry sent to his phone.
Members of the school’s students’ union did not respond to calls seeking comments on the matter.
